Jan has client work in New Orleans so we’re in town for about seven days. That’s all the time I think we’ll need, though. We’ve both been to NOLA several times and the hot, sticky tropical weather is not something we want to enjoy long-term.
Having said that, we do have a hefty list of food that we want to consume while we’re in town. Seriously, my Google maps saved list is like a little green forest of delights that we need to mow down. We’ll also try to see some sights while we’re here, but I’m having some trouble convincing Jan that we need to take a swamp tour to “experience the alligators.” For someone who’s so into animals, you’d think that would be an easy sell. Nope.
While he’s been doing his consulting work, I’ve been wandering the Lower Garden District and the area around Tulane University. The St. Charles street car isn’t too far from our host, so it’s been very convenient to get around. Street car commuter culture, it should be noted, doesn’t have the same swagger as other forms of public transit. It’s both more gentile, touristy, and affordable (jazzy pass = $15/5 days). Still, we try to infuse that Chicago CTA-ness to the proceedings.
We’re headed to the French District later, and may try to make to the Bayou Boogaloo this weekend. If all goes well, we will have consumed all the cajun food, beignets, and sno-cones this city has to offer by week’s end. Wish us luck or add to the growing list of recommendations.
Can you aisle-surf on a streetcar, tho? If not, then where’s the challenge..
True, they’re a little janky-jerky for that.
