Jan is of Norwegian decent, but I’m sure I don’t have an ounce of Scandinavian blood in me. My hatred of cold weather is better than any DNA test to prove that point. It’s 20 Celsius in Victoria, B.C. right now, and that’s enough to make my ears cold and achy on bike rides — ugh, no. By the same token, Jan doesn’t like constant rain. This means we need to plan to exit the Pacific NW before the weather changes.
We agreed that we need to move south of the Oregon/California border after our October stop in Washington State. The big question is, where?
My vote is for Lima, Peru. It’s cheap, on the ocean, has a moderate desert climate, and seems safe. Jan has used his Spanish more recently than me, but I’m willing to act a fool and point at things until I figure out my words. No visas or vaccinations are required, and we can stay up to 90 days if we want. The only thing we would need to figure out is where to go afterwards because, from what I understand, Peru requires proof that you’ll leave.
The other big question is, must we see anyone over the holidays? I’m not big into these celebrations, but Jan does spend time with family during the season. The complication is that his kids live in different states and no one’s made plans regarding the end of the year. Join the club.
I’m looking at flights to and fro, and comparing that to availability of AirBnB rentals in Lima. Scheduling appears to be as much fun as filing taxes. Ugh.
I just found out a couple of the techs at my vet’s office cat sit on the side. That means I can bug out for a few days! Only the when and where. I’d like to find you guys somewhere along the Viking road.
Left a comment but it never showed up…Take two:
I just found out that techs at my vet cat sit on the side. This is a perfect solution to me leaving Chi for a few days to visit you wherever you happen to be. Would love to work something out.
That’s because I moderate, m’dear, and I wasn’t aware anyone had grokked onto this site yet. We’re definitely going to Lima in November – December, but it’s a single bedroom situation. Harstine Island in October may be a better bet — we have extra rooms for guests. Not sure about January yet, but open to ideas.
